Retro Parties

A Retro Roadshow party is a trip down memory lane. It’s a look back at how mobile discos used to look in their heyday of the 1980s and 1990s. It’s how a lot of people remember a disco looking in their youth.

So why use the Retro Roadshow?

  • Maybe you’re hosting a party themed around the 60s, 70s, 80s or 90s?
  • Maybe you’re just looking for something a little bit different to the current “star cloth” disco
  • Maybe you don’t like the look of the modern equipment with effects racing across the dance floor and strobe effects?

The reasons previous customers have booked the Retro Roadshow in the past are wide and varied, including several now retired DJs who wanted the roadshow because it’s the type of equipment they used when they were working.

What does my service offer?

I offer a full mobile disco service as you’d expect, including the light-show ranging from 6 feet to 16 feet in width, the music of your choice, modern and powerful digital sound system, and of course me as your time-served and very experienced DJ for the evening.

And what about the music?

I grew up in the 70s and started work in the 80s running a record department in a city centre store (it’s also when I became a DJ). As you’d expect from my generation I was influenced by my parents’ tastes in music (1950s and 1960s), and the music of the time (1970s to 1980s).  The Retro Roadshow is ideally suited to these decades as that’s how a disco would have looked at the time.

Of course, the music doesn’t have to be from a particular genre or decade. My music library spans from the 1940s to the current charts and pre-releases and contains in excess of 35,000 tracks so I’ve got something for everyone.

The music I play on the night of your party is entirely up to you and your guests. I’m more than happy to take playlist suggestions from you before the party (in fact I offer an online facility where you can build a playlist should you wish to), and I’m equally as happy to take requests from your guests on the night of the party itself.

What’s more, if a track is requested which I don’t have (rare, but it sometimes happens), I can usually obtain a copy on the night via several licensed online sources.

My only aim is to make the evening enjoyable for as many people as possible.

Sadly, the music is now played digitally instead of from vinyl records. Whilst vinyl is now making a comeback in the shops, there were many years where it wasn’t produced for mainstream music. Add to this that 35,000 7″ singles would take a van on their own to move around, and it’s just not feasible to use anymore.

How much will my party cost?

I set my prices to be as fair as possible whilst earning a liveable wage from what I do.

The Retro Roadshow light-show is now antique in mobile disco terms and it takes a lot of time and money to maintain. Add on the costs of transportation and storage, insurance, music, insurance and other business expenses and it’s not cheap to run.

The prices below are based on a party in the county of Cambridgeshire. I can and regularly DO travel further afield, but obviously have to factor in travelling time and costs should you party be outside Cambridgeshire. If your party is further afield – please get in touch for a price for your party.

My prices start at £575 for a 5 hour party depending on how far I need to travel and how hard it is to get the roadshow into your function room.

The price includes:

  • Light show to suit the space available in your venue, from 6 feet to 16 feet in width
  • Full sound and music system, including backups should something go wrong.
  • Me as your DJ for the evening
  • Setup and breakdown time of an hour either side of your party included in the price
  • Access to my online planning tools

Sorry, but the Retro Roadshow is not available for parties in upstairs/basement function rooms unless is lift is available due to the weight of the equipment.

If early setup is required (i.e. more than an hour before the start of your party), this is charged at £20 per hour as I have to remain on-site with the equipment for insurance purposes.

All bookings require a signed booking form and a non-refundable deposit of £50 to secure the date, with the remaining balance being due 14 days before the date of your party.

Payments can be made via bank transfer, or credit/debit card. Sorry, I do not take payment on the night of the party.600
